BDCA Neighbourhood Shoppers Scheme
DO YOU NEED SOMEONE TO DO YOUR SHOPPING WHILST SELF-ISOLATING?
Many in our community are in vulnerable households, shielding or in self-isolation. Online delivery slots are hard to find, and without the support of friends, family or neighbours, they are unable to get their shopping and basic essentials.
As a long-standing and reputable local charity, BDCA will connect volunteers with those in the community who need help getting their essential shopping done.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
You can request your shopping by completing this form
Our Project Coordinator, Gemma, will match you with a local Neighbourhood Shopper who will shop and drop. Gemma will confirm with you what day to expect your shopping (most likely a Wednesday or Thursday)
Our volunteer will send BDCA a copy of the receipt (the original will be left with your shopping for you)
On receipt of your shopping, you send the payment to BDCA, using Shopping as reference
BDCA will reimburse our Neighbourhood Shopper
Currently, we can only cater for existing members of BDCA or those living in E6, E12 or E13 postcodes.
IS IT SAFE?
BDCA will recruit and screen all Neighbourhood Shopper volunteers. BDCA will support them to safely undertake their volunteering role.
BDCA will keep a record of all Neighbourhood Shopper volunteers and all those who request support, using our secure database Upshot
No money or contact details is exchanged between our Volunteers and Clients to keep safeguarding risks to a minimum. Our Project Coordinator will be the liaison for both. The client will pay the shopping cost to BDCA. The Neighbourhood Shopper will use their own funds to pay for the shopping and then complete an expense form for reimbursement, which BDCA will honour regardless of when the client pays in.
BDCA will follow up any concerns or issues raised, and will ensure that any additional support required is referred to an appropriate provider.
